The Quest Begins (Parody of American Pie) - by Calis

(sung by Frodo to the tune of ´American Pieª by Don McLean)

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember how
The Nazgul used to chase me around.
And I knew if I had my chance,
That I could make those Ringwraiths pay,
And maybe I'll see Bilbo for a while.
But the Morgul blade made me shiver,
Its tip broke off inside my shoulder,
Bad news on Weathertop...
I managed to take the Ring off.
I can't remember who came then,
Lord Glorfindel or fair Arwen,
But Asfaloth took me across Bruinen
And the Wraiths were washed away.
So...
CHORUS
Bye bye Mr Giant Red Eye,
You thought we'd use it but we threw it down into the fire.
And them good old Elves were sailing into the West,
Singing ´We're off to the place that's the best.ª
Did you hear a voice in dreams
And do you have faith in Mithrandir,
If lord Elrond tells you so?
Now, do you believe in Aragorn,
Can Narsil help you win the war,
And can you swallow that foolish pride of yours?
Well I know that we can't use the Ring,
So that leaves us with one other thing,
The Ring must be destroyed
At the place where it was forged.
I was a wounded hobbit far from home
With a mithril coat and an elven sword
And though I didn't know the way
I still took the Ring.
I started singing...
CHORUS
Now, on this quest I was not alone,
For a Fellowship of nine was formed
To walk against the Enemy.
But the dwarves of Moria delved to deep
And they awoke an ancient fear,
A balrog that scared both you and me.
And while the beast was looking down,
The wizard raised his wooden staff.
The Khazad-Dum bridge broke
At the feet of our foe.
And as the balrog fell into the dark,
It swung its whip ang caught Gandalf,
And we wept long in Dimrill Dale
The day the wizard fell.
We were singing...
CHORUS
I met the Lady of the Wood
And I offered her the Ring of Doom,
But she just smiled and passed the test.
I went down the Great River
And I escaped from Boromir,
'Cause the man said he should have the Ring.
And from the woods the Uruks charged,
But we were scattered all around,
Merry and Pip were taken...
The Fellowship was broken...
And the hobbit I admire most
Caught up with me down by the boat.
We crossed to the eastern coast
The day Boromir died.
And we were singing...
CHORUS
We were singing...
CHORUS
