MOON LETTERS : POETRY
A Moth Drawn to Fire - By RavenLady

Disclaimer: Feanor and Nerdanel belong to the Tolkien Estate.
Note: This poem is based on the Silmarillion.

Like fire, he might have banished cold and dark;
Like fire, he heeded none in his way;
Like fire, he cast on knowledge new light;
Like fire, he trapped moths that too close would stray.
Like fire, he heeded no voice but his own.
Like fire, he was undimmed by any lesser glimmer
Like fire, his glory was in standing alone
Like fire, he reached above the shimmer
Of others' wisdom. He looked far beyond
The lands he knew, out to the dawn
He stopped at nothing, not even bloodshed
Or the warning of any, living or dead.
I was among the moths drawn to his light,
And snared there, burned, left as a shell --
Remaining, when he went out into the night --
As a raging fire, fierce and fell.
